Apology
Sadly, I am Responsible For This Mess
I know very few people actually care, but for my own sense of navel-gazing pleasure, here’s what I’m about.
I’m a 30 year old hacker-wannabe with a penchant for sarcastic quips and nerdly pursuits such as science fiction, computers and video games. Basically, I haven’t matured that much since I was 12. I did muster enough adult-like qualities to find the love of my life, and married her before she could come to her senses.
I’m work for a Silicon Valley start-up called LiveOps where I work in the NOC, usually at odd hours, staring at complex-looking graphs and charts for hours on end.
I used to have a boatload of computers that I talked about endlessly, but it was much easier to maintain all those machines when I wasn’t working full time in an office, but worked from home as a contractor. Since gainful employment looks to be my lot in life, I tried to consolidate. Now I’m down to a Apple iBook G4 933MHz (Sydney) and a Mac mini (Willow). I used to run a slew of Linux distributions and what have you, but to be perfectly honest, that was easier when I had a lot more time, too. I still think Unix-type OSes are the way to go, but these days I prefer a pleasant facade to my Unix.
I’m interested in programming (PHP, Perl, some Python and C), video games (PlayStation 2, GameCube, XBox 360, Nintendo DS), movies (Netflix is my friend), reading (SF mostly), writing (primarily here on this site for now), music (listening and playing a little) and the occasional bout of physical activity like raquetball or paintball. I try not to get carried away with the exercise though. I heard it can kill you or something.
Some day I’d like to be a filmmaker or a real programmer or a novelist or own my own company or run a LAN gaming palace or design video games or teach history or be a gourmet chef or review movies or be a music producer. I’ll wait until I grow up for those things, though.
